Thomas J. Seefred Trust Scholarship
About the Scholarship
In a philanthropic effort to support the educational pursuits of college students facing the challenges of Juvenile Diabetes, Thomas J. Seefred of Struthers, Ohio, established the Thomas J. Seefred Trust in 2005. The trust, now a perpetual fund, is pleased to announce the availability of scholarships, each valued up to $3,000, for eligible candidates. Administration of the trust is overseen by Mahoning County Probate Judge, Judge Robert N. Rusu.
Eligibility
- Ohio residents only (preference for residents of Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana counties)
- 18-25 years old at time of application
- Must be in the process of completing a standard curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree at an accredited junior college, college or university
- Current high school students are not eligible
- Must be in good academic standing
Selection/Evaluation
Awards will be based on academic promise, personal statement, letter of recommendation, and financial need.
Award
Each recipient may be awarded up to $3,000 to be used for expenses such as tuition, fees, room and board during the academic year
New Applicants
Please provide 3 copies of each of the following documents:
- Completed notarized application
- Official dated transcript from college or university providing proof of enrollment
- Physician's statement on letterhead noting diagnosis and treatment
- Letter of recommendation from a non-relative
- Personal essay (500 words or less) describing the impact juvenile diabetes has had on you and why you should be considered for this scholarship
- Current income tax statements from parents and student (do not include extra schedules and forms - the top two pages are sufficient)
